regret

I carry you
in the heel of
my shoe
like a rock.
Small.
Jagged.
So that every time
I move forward
you bite deeper,
and the wound
never heals.

I wrote this months ago, and wanted someplace to put it. Even though no one will ever read it.

It's been read.

Simple, yet perfect in crystallizing regret into words. I love the topic. I recall the film The Big Kahuna where DeVito's character preaches a man is not a man until he has something to regret. And Magnolia: a wealth of characters bound by regret.
