Counting down to the last days of Summer…it’s almost time for Fall’s change,
It’s amazing the differences a new season can bring.
Your mood…your thoughts…down to the center of your core,
Fall is the time for your soul to be restored.
Souls shed impurities like trees shed leaves,
Left with a feeling that’s both refreshed and relieved.
Starting out fresh with new goals to achieve,
Seeking out truth, and veering away from those that deceive.
Fall rains wash the land, as well as your whole being,
As the clouds of your life part, it’s as if it was your first time seeing,
The silver lining they possess, along with the light they once blocked,
Fresh ground of life to travel upon through life’s treacherous walk.
I welcome the Fall, as I welcome the change,
My mind, body, and soul are ready for the exchange.
From one train of thought onto another,
I hope the sun in my life will soon be uncovered.

Peter,
I like how you turn the conventional notion of the seasons on it's head. Fall is a time a renewal and rebirth where you shake off the woes of the dirty, sweaty summer. This notion is really strengthened by the last line. On a side note, I admire your use of rhyme. I've tried before and it always sounds so forced and hokey. Your rhymes flow quite effortlessly.
Thanks for the kind words Chris!
I actually find it MUCH harder to write poetry like yours... Your choice of words and breaks in the stanzas have such a huge bearing on what you want to portray, whereas I just find words that rhyme. There's an intelligence behind a lot of the poems on here that I have trouble grasping at times.
I've found that practice makes perfect when it comes to rhyming. I spent years, as a hobby, freestyle rapping (why does admitting this make me feel like a dork? lol) with my friends...which eventually turned into me putting them on paper as lyrics which turned into spoken words and poetry.
