I've read many books.
The cover is nothing more
than a stylistic ploy.
Curvy letters for romance.
Block letters for suspense.
A creepy house means secrets.
An island paradise: murder.
I like the books
that are solid colors,
plain,
conservative in dress
(who needs a dust jacket?)
When I see
the books with flashy covers,
fanciful letters,
and contracted artwork.
I turn and walk
in the other direction.

You can totally judge a book by its cover.
The line about the dust jacket is great and I like the assertion of the first line as well. I have rarely paied attention the font of genre books, so I thought that was an excellent image too.
C'mon man. The cover for Palahniuk's Haunted glows in the dark and it's decent. But really, I chuckled to myself when I read your descriptions of the different cover because it's so true. You should read Malcolm Gladwell's Blink because it goes into our snap judgments based on our first impressions. Basically, he says, as you do, judge a book by its cover.
