My Heart Will Go On

Sloshing through heavy rain,
I stop, ankle deep, in a puddle.
The bottom of my jeans
darken and weigh heavy.
I remember Titanic
(the movie, not the ship).
Jack, our hero, sinks
with my sneakers,
too heavy, too dead,
to stay afloat.

And then it comes,
like a force of nature,
like that fateful iceberg:
the song. Pounding
in my head; Celine Dion
pounding her chest
in true diva-like fashion.
So much absurd passion.
Jack's lifeless body.
My soaked jeans. Singing

Every night. In my dreams.
I hear her. I feel her.
As long as my heart goes on.

Throwaway.

I like the first stanza a lot and the image of the sinking Jack and your soaking jeans is very interesting and quite nice. The second stanza could be less wordy. I don't think this is a throwaway, but a work in progress.

I agree with Chris here. Good first stanza. The second stanza could use some work. After reading the first, I thought the second stanza would begin to refer to Rose and how Jack sinks away from her. The Celine Dion reference surprised me and I'm sorry if that song is always in your head. Can I recommend a lobotomy?
