A child’s finger
Runs screaming
Across a chalkboard.
Be tolerant.
A purple blotch beneath
Treks methodically
Towards the tip.
Be patient.
A sliver of cuticle
Tears away—
Stinging tissue exposed.
Be careful.
A dead man’s nail
Feints growth—
Dried flesh, shrunken skin.
Be mindful.
