This is an older poem, dated May 16, 2003. I was going through my older poems and was compelled to revisit this one. Below is the previous version:
“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” - John 15:13
I will contest. Experience Has taught me well. Friendship is Overrated. Neither a necessity— Nor a luxury— But a burden— A tax that rises With years and wealth.
