I'm continuing the topic of the day with my own poem. Unfortunately, I must get back to grading and will spend some more focused time on all your poems tomorrow.
Please, never mention the word grading again! :) I start two summer classes on Monday and I'm in denial.
I do hope it all goes well.
This poem reminded me of my own mother and it made my pause for a moment. It conjured up a distinct image I have of my mother smoking in her green chair. I like the truth about it, the images are quick and precise. You managed to create a strong tone in just a few lines and I think leaving it unpunctuated follows some of the themes: unraveling, ritual, cyclical motion, and dysfunction.
By saying so little, this poem says so much. I think thats the definition of poetry. It starts out with a strong image and ends with a stronger one. Well done!
Grading papers sucks! I have 160 coming in tomorrow but my student teacher gets to correct the bulk of them. Hehe!
Enjoy the two summer classes, Brandy! I hope you get a strong group of students!
And good luck with all those papers, Brent, or should I save that for your student teachers. Jesus that's an intimidating stack. I won't mention the G word again.
