Adam’s Morning

He came first—
Like the sun emerging
To travel the firmament—

Alone.

His work:
Tend the garden /
Name the animals /
Eat judiciously.

An immeasurable day
Ceased by dreams
And an awakening
To Eve.

I wrote this one last week and feel that it could be longer, but I'm working on another poem right now and I'm stuck for the moment. I'm hoping I can finish it by tomorrow.

I actually like the brevity. I like the matter-of-factness of it all too. Just over here naming animals. I like this.

I too really like the brevity. It sort of begs the question of what is to come, pending Eve's arrival. And, I like how the day ends with "Eve." Very nice.

I love the last stanza and the pun on ceased and Eve. I love how the day ends with "the beginning," foreshadowing the Fall of Man. There's a sense of beauty, hope, and wonder in this poem, masking the dread of loneliness, the mundane, and impending doom that subtly reverberates throughout. I love this poem: biblical references always intrigue me.
